Ayurveda Healing EcoVillage of Vaidyagram, South India
Sound, in the form of drumming, chanting, recitation, repetition of mantra, singing, instrumental music, and the ringing of bells has been an integral part of devotional traditions since ancient days. Sound is associated with ākāśa (space), the most subtle of the five great mahābhūta (elements). Its subtlety offers the potential to usher us into subtle realms of consciousness where we may experience devotion, clarity, focus, love and healing. The various qualities and practices associated with sound exert a variety of effects on our well-being. During the five days of the retreat attendees will participate actively in these practices, thereby enjoying direct experience of the very different effects of these distinct manifestations of sound:
-Shantala Sriramiah will lead us in precisely-guided chanting of the Vedas, allowing us to share in the authentic living lineage of the Krishna Yajur Veda Mysore sampradāya (tradition/lineage), to which she belongs
-Nina Rao will lead us in devotional singing (kirtan).
-Dr. Shubham Kulkarni is a licensed physician of Ayurveda who has also trained in classical vocal rāga. He will sing rāga to and with us, to facilitate our own healing and inner harmony.
- Allison Dennis will help us learn how to use rāga as a jyotiṣal upāya, or an astrological remedy.
- Yoga with Rose Baudin & Scott Blossom
- Special Guests: Dr. Robert Svoboda, Dr. Claudia Welch, Dr. Ramkumar and others
